Women should follow a healthy habit as it will reduce the risk of developing the breast cancer. They should keep their breasts healthy and nurtured. Though there are certain simple things which one can do to keep their breasts healthy and keep away from breast cancer.
Eat Healthy Diet
Eating a nutritious and healthy diet consisting of green leafy vegetables that are rich in carotenoids and natural pigments helps in keeping your breasts healthy. Avoid eating junk food and reduce the intake of red meat. Include yellow/orange fruits and vegetables that are rich in the antioxidant beta-carotene in your diet as it reduces the risk of acquiring breast cancer.
Women should exercise regularly to maintain a healthy weight as it not only controls the level of hormones, but also keeps high cholesterol at bay as that can cause cancer too. Obesity increases the risk of cancer. The more fat cells your body has, the higher the level of estrogen is generated, which heightens the risk of cancer. So, do exercises that stimulate lymph generation in the body.
Avoid Unhealthy Habits
Smoking is not only injurious to the lungs, but also harms the whole anatomy. It also lowers metabolism and causes cellulite and makes the skin age before time. So, one should quit smoking if they want to keep their breasts healthy. Even passive smoking is as harmful as active smoking.
Drink less alcohol and caffeine
Reduce the consumption of alcohol and caffeine as it can increase breast pain and tenderness. Women, who consume more than two glasses of alcohol a day, are at a higher risk of breast cancer than non-alcoholics.
Women should undertake self-examination regularly, especially if they are over 30 and have a family history of breast cancer. Any change in the shape, size or skin texture of and around the breasts can be an indication, along with lumps, discharges and rashes. If you discover a lump, don`t freak out or go into denial. Every lump is not cancerous. Many times, a new lump could turn out to be a cyst or a fluid-filled sac caused due to hormonal fluctuations. Calm down and seek professional advice. Going to a doctor can sometimes lead to early detection and improve the chances of cure.
Keeping up till late in the night suppresses melatonin levels due to greater exposure to light. Research suggests melatonin may help regulate estrogen.
